Embracing Faith: Supporting Our Children Through Struggles

Updated: Apr 3

The Weight of Worry

Have you ever had a child who is struggling with life? All the tools are there. The advice is there. The love, the support, the guidance—you give it freely and endlessly. As a mother, you’re always ready to catch them when they fall. You pick them up, dust them off, and gently guide them back onto their feet. But what happens when they don’t have the strength or the will to stand back up?

Watching your child struggle with mental health and depression is a pain that’s hard to put into words. Some days it feels unbearable. If I’m being honest, there are moments when I feel like I’m the one failing her. Like somehow I should be doing more… or better… or differently.

The Exhaustion of Caregiving

I get run down, too. I feel worn and exhausted, hoping and praying that something will finally give—something that will bring her peace, clarity, or healing. Lately, it feels like she’s given up, and I’m left standing here at a complete loss, not knowing which way to turn.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed. The weight of worry can be crushing. I often wonder if I’m doing enough. Am I saying the right things? Am I being supportive enough? These questions swirl in my mind, adding to my fatigue.

Turning to God for Strength

So I turn to God. I pray with everything in me—for Him to guide her, protect her, and keep her safe. I ask Him to hold her when I can’t reach her and to carry her when she doesn’t have the strength to carry herself.

In these moments of prayer, I find solace. I remind myself that I am not alone in this journey. God is with us, even when the path seems dark. He knows our struggles and hears our cries.

Finding Comfort in Scripture

The worry is heavy. Some days it brings me to tears. But even in the fear, even in the heartbreak, I cling to faith—trusting that God sees what I can’t and is working in ways I don’t yet understand.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”— Psalm 34:18

This verse brings me comfort. It reminds me that God is near, especially in our moments of despair. I hold onto this truth as I navigate the challenges of supporting my child.

The Journey of Healing

Healing is not a straight path. It’s filled with ups and downs. Some days are better than others. I’ve learned to celebrate the small victories. A smile, a moment of laughter, or even just a quiet moment together can mean the world.

I also recognize the importance of self-care. As a caregiver, I must take care of myself to be there for my child. This means finding time to recharge, whether through prayer, meditation, or simply taking a walk.

Creating a Supportive Environment

Creating a nurturing environment at home is essential. I strive to fill our space with love and positivity. Simple touches, like soft lighting, comforting scents, and cozy blankets, can make a difference.

Handcrafted goods that bring peace and comfort into our home are a beautiful addition. They serve as reminders of the love and care we share. Surrounding ourselves with these comforting items can help create a sanctuary, a place where healing can begin.

Seeking Help When Needed

There are times when professional help is necessary. Seeking therapy or counseling can provide additional support. It’s important to remember that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

I’ve learned that it’s okay to reach out to others. Whether it’s friends, family, or support groups, sharing our experiences can lighten the load. We are not alone in this journey.

The Power of Community

Building a community around us can be incredibly uplifting. Connecting with others who understand our struggles can provide comfort and encouragement. We can share our stories, our fears, and our hopes.

In these moments of connection, we find strength. Together, we can lift each other up and remind one another that we are not alone.

Embracing the Journey

Loving your child through the hard seasons is an act of faith all on its own. It requires patience, understanding, and an open heart. As we navigate this journey together, I hold onto hope.

I trust that brighter days are ahead. With faith as our guide, we can face the challenges that come our way. Together, we will find healing, peace, and joy once again.

In the end, it’s about love. Love for our children, love for ourselves, and love for the journey we are on. Let’s embrace it together.
